SUMMER IN THE PSALMS

The book of Psalms—also called the Psalter—is divided into five books, each ending with a doxology, a word of praise to God. This five-fold structure mirrors the five books of Moses—the Torah (Genesis through Deuteronomy)—reminding us that the Psalms aren’t disconnected from the Law, but are a Spirit-inspired response to it. The Psalter is rich in doctrine and theology, but these songs, prayers, and poems are not cold abstractions. They are meant to shape both our hearts and minds. They teach us who God is—His glory, holiness, steadfast love, and sovereign power. And they show us who we are—our sin, sorrow, gratitude, joy, and our constant need to dwell in the presence of the Lord.
